Wiener Stadthalle, Vienna, AUSTRIA – April 19, 2006
The ancient musical tradition of the "Lautari", the gypsies of Romania are extended thru the unique performances of Taraf De Haidouks, a band of 10-12 instrumentalists and singers, in the age of 20-78. The music of Taraf de Haïdouks was featured in Tony Gartlif's award-winning film, "Latcho Drom" and a documentary video of Taraf de Haïdouks was filmed by French director Guy Demoy in 1998. Taraf de Haïdouks, who take their name from the Haidouks, Robin Hood-like thieves who are recalled in many of the group's ballads, hail from the small Romanian village of Clejani, southwest of Bucharest (Romania).
The Gypsy band has released several award winning albums and has been touring Europe with great success since they founded the band in 1989 and have been awarded as "sensation of the world-music-scenario". At their concert in Vienna they again "proved" that they are the best Chipsy band in the world, and that their energy is the essence of gypsy music - it is amazing that none of them has ever learned how to read musical notes.
