LJUBICIC WINS BA-CA TROPHY
No. 4 seed Ivan Ljubicic wins his third career title defeating No. 7 seed Juan Carlos Ferrero
6-2, 6- 4, 7-6 (5) in two hours, 31 minutes in the final of the BA-CA Tennis Trophy in Vienna.
The 26-year-old extends his current winning streak to 12 matches, having won the ATP title
in Metz the week before as well as two Davis Cup singles matches, helping Croatia to reach the Davis Cup final
for the first time in history. He now has a 47-18 record in 2005. Ljubicic holds a perfect 5-0 record in Vienna,
playing in the BA-CA Tennis Trophy for the first time. He becomes the second Croatian
winner of the BA-CA Tennis Trophy after Goran Ivanisevic, who won the title in 1993 and 1997. En route to the title Ljubicic defeated Agustin Calleri, Tommy Haas, No. 6 seed Fernando Gonzalez, No. 5 seed Tommy Robredo, and No. 7 seed Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final.
All four semifinalists (Juan Carlos FERRERO vs. Radek STEPANEK, and Ivan LJUBICIC vs. Tommy ROBREDO) have won at least 40 matches in the 2005 season.
